Kris Spadea

Kris is inquisitive by nature, and likes to understand how everything works. After receiving his B.Sc. from Temple University, he managed and grew small businesses. In 2007, he moved into the technology space, and has worked in multiple domains with Verizon, Sungard Availability Services and Google. During this time he has worked with medium sized businesses through Enterprise and Named accounts, cultivating business and technical relationships with both end users and an extensive partner ecosystem. Today, Kris works with Large enterprises at Google, helping them to leverage Google Cloud Platform to drive new capabilities in their businesses and offerings.

K amal Choudhary

JARVIS


K. Choudhary is a post-doctoral researcher at NIST. He completed his PhD from the University of Florida in Materials Science and Engineering. He is currently developing an integrated platform for atomistic simulations, AI and experiments, called JARVIS (available at https://jarvis.nist.gov/). He has published over 40 journal articles.

Penny Lee

Chief Strategy Officer, 1776


Penny has spent much of her career in politics, serving in positions ranging from finance to communications across different levels of government. She now applies many of the skills learned on campaign trails and in government to help entrepreneurs build and scale their companies. She is a strong advocate for reducing the funding gap for underrepresented entrepreneurs and owns her role as an angel investor with K-Street Capital. Penny works to develop and build strategies to support 1776 as a dynamic company with a robust brand.

Isatu Conteh

Isatu is currently working as a Software Engineer on Capital One’s Digital Messaging team. She’s a General Assembly graduate, Capital One Future Edge Scholar and a long time Women Who Code DC lead who’s past development experience includes creating UI’s for educational technology products made for ESL and autistic students at Speak Agent and modifying and manipulating feed data at the Washington Post for use on third party platforms like AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages), Apple News and Facebook Pages. In her free time she likes to go to brunch, watch Netflix, go to or volunteer at area meet ups and occasionally grab a drink with friends.

Srini Karlekar

Srini Karlekar is a software architect and hands-on developer passionate about Serverless Architecture, Cognitive Technologies and Blockchain. He is currently on a mission to transform public sector one block at a time using Blockchain technologies such as Distributed Ledgers, Smart Contracts, Digital Identity and integrating Blockchain with IoT.

Doug Stevenson

Doug is a veteran engineer, experienced public speaker, and developer advocate at Google with the Firebase team. He’s been developing for Android since the very first Android device was on the market, and has bootstrapped the efforts of silicon valley startups. Outside of work, Doug follows professional ice hockey and enjoys craft beer.

Tina Liang

Google


Tina a Google engineer representing Firebase at the conference. She currently works on the serverless environment and is part of a team spearheading efforts to define serverless at Google. Outside of work, she enjoys urban hiking and attending concerts.

Joseph Nelson

Represently


Joseph Nelson applies data science to impactful disciplines, and teaches others to do the same. He’s the founder of Represently, the first company to apply machine learning to improve how the US Congress responds to your outreach. He leads Data Advocacy for General Assembly, where he has written and taught over 2000 hours of data science curriculum to Fortune 500 companies and individuals alike. He previously guest lectured as a part of GW’s Master’s in Data Science program, built data visualization dashboards as a part of Facebook’s Politics and Government team, and worked in public affairs. Joseph is an advocate for using technology to improve social well-being. When he’s not modeling (data), he’s reading, bicycling, or learning the tools to build his next side project.

Raja Chattopadhyay

Raja is a developer at Capital One and passionate about writing easily maintainable and extendable code. Raja has worked as a developer and a Tech Lead. Raja’s current focus is on building micro services, reactive architecture, building common capabilities to modernize Marketing and Decisioning Technology applications. He is a regular attendee to developer conferences & meetups. In his free time, he likes to watch soccer and enjoys time playing with his son.

Thiaga has worked as a data modeler, developer, solutions architect; playing crucial role in system design, development and platform management for over two decades.

Andrew Bonham

Andy is currently a Principal Software Engineer/Architect at Capital One with over 18 years of hands-on IT experience building real-time high transaction decisioning and workflow applications. His current focus areas include microservices, reactive architecture, case management & BPMS products, rules engines, machine learning, and common capabilities. He holds an undergraduate and master’s degree in Computer Science along with a concentration in Information Security. He has several industry certifications including AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, CISSP and CSSLP.

Julka Grodel

Julka Grodel is a Principal Software Engineer at Framebridge, a DC startup disrupting the custom framing market. She is happiest when she can get lost in the details and structure of a thing, making it for work her, making it work better, or cleaning it up to make it easier for others. By day, Julka channels this focus to empower Framebridge customers to frame everything they love and she enjoys seeing how creative and weird people get. When not toiling away for her corporate overlords she spends her time volunteering on literacy projects with the Junior League, in a Pilates studio, or doting over her blind cat Batman and his BFF Robin.

Ben Hong

Ben Hong is a Senior UI Developer at POLITICO and self-taught developer whose origin story harkens back to the days when he was a naiive kid building seizure-inducing websites like “Fortune Cookie Universe” on Angelfire and Geocities with numerous GIFs and elements. After a few detours and becoming an I/O Psychologist, he would finally connect the dots and bring his passion for technology and user experience together.
Aside from coding, he is a huge advocate giving back to the community through teaching, mentoring, speaking and organizing events. He is a co-founder of the VueDC Meetup and works closely with other community organizers to help foster a welcoming community in the DC metro area. And in his free time, you can find him searching for new culinary experiences, traveling the world, or exploring some new hobby he recently learned about!

Yufeng has been building computers since elementary school and lives at the intersection of hardware and software. As a Google Developer Advocate, Yufeng bridges the gap between the developer community and engineering teams.

She is the force behind bringing the practice of Decision Intelligence to Google and she has personally trained over 15,000 Googlers in machine learning, statistics, and data-driven decision-making. Before her current role, she served in Google’s Office of the CTO as Chief Data Scientist. Prior to joining Google, Cassie worked as a data scientist and consultant. She holds degrees in mathematical statistics, economics, psychology, and cognitive neuroscience. When she’s not working, you’re most likely to find Cassie at the theater, in an art museum, exploring the world, or curled up with a good novel.

James Wen is a Site Reliability Engineer at Spotify. He’s currently focused on revamping Spotify’s infrastructure and adopting Kubernetes and co. Prior, James was the Team Lead (Anchor) of the Cloud Foundry Buildpacks team at Pivotal and a core contributor/maintainer of Bundler. James has previously spoken about buildpacks at Cloud Foundry Summit Europe and Spotify’s infrastructure journey and migrations at QCon New York and KubeCon Europe. In his free time, he absolutely loves climbing, whether it’s on gorgeous Fontainebleau slopers or nasty plastic crimps.

In my spare time I over-analyze TV, help run Women Who Code DC (one of the most active WWC chapters in the world!), and mentor women in technology. Having had three careers and lived in three countries, I have a passion for making the tech community more inclusive and open to all.

Noble Ackerson

Noble is a senior technical product executive with over a decade of shipping products that meet the needs of millions of users in the higher-education, enterprise, higher-ed, and consumer space. He led the award-winning DC-based Augmented Reality for fitness startup, LynxFit. With that background, he advises startups and nurtures startup communities to bring ubiquitous and pervasive technologies to market.
He is a publicity chair person for Ubicomp and the International Symposium on Wearable Computers (“ISWC”) and sits on the Alumni Leadership Board for the leading online education startup, Udacity. Acts as a member of the Alumni Board at Lynchburg Colleges where he empowers underserved student developers through lectures, and material to empathically validate, develop and ship innovative products that meet user needs.
When Noble is not focused on product innovation, he is spending time with his daughters, running with bulls in Pamplona, Spain, running a marathon, training for and quantifying his fitness whilst competing in a Spartan Race.
